Description: Made by Jake Hildebrand to use for trimming celery stalks.  Angled L shaped wooden cradle (to hold celery) mounted on wooden base with a curved cutting blade mounted on right side.

Machinery: Hayfork & Pulley

Description: Used to unload hay from the wagon into the haymow. The barn had a track attached under the ridge beam of the barn extending through the “Hay Door” to the outside. A trolley system travelled on the track. The wagonload of hay was positioned under the track. The pointed spurs on the hayfork were driven into the hay as far as desired & the movement of the handle turned the spurs at right angles, enabling a large quantity of hay to be lifted.

Machinery: Measuring Tape

Description: Used by Nick Isaak in 1920's, when employed by Spruce Falls Pulp and Paper Co. in Spruce Falls (30 miles from Reesor) to measure cords of wood before being shipped out in the winter.

Machinery: Suitcase Rack

Description: The homemade rack, used to hold a suitcase in place, was clamped to the running board of a Star car, belonging to Jacob and Maria Koop.  Illustration by John Wiens demonstrates how the rack was used.

Machinery: Tractor replica

Description: (a) Replica of the 1937 John Deere tractor the original of which was purchased in 1949. It was used to farm 200 acres of land located in the N.E. corner of the 4th Concession and Highway77.

b) It may be seen in the framed newspaper clipping.

Machinery: Wiffletree or Single Tree

Description: Wooden single tree; used in 1930's for farming with a horse. It was the connecting link between the horse’s harness and the load it was pulling.

Machinery: Typewriter and Case

Description: Brother Valiant make typewriter used by Elder N.N. Driedger to type first church bulletins as well as his book on the history of the Leamington United Mennonite Church.

Machinery: Watermelon Crusher

Description: Two vertical wood pieces attached to a wooden base, with a dowel running through the vertical pieces. A crank was attached to one end of the dowel and two sheet metal halfcircle pieces to the other end. Was used to remove the pulp from watermelons. The juice was then boiled down to produce “watermelon syrup” which was used as a sweetener for cooking and baking.

Machinery: Grind Stone

Description: The stone is 4.5 cm thick X 30 cm in diameter. It has a metal shaft through the centre with a crank on one end for manual operation. Was donated without a support stand. Was used to sharpen knives and scythes, etc.  Owned by Jacob Koop.

Machinery: Corn Planter

Description: Manual corn planter used to plant corn or beans before mechanical planters were invented. Later it was used to replant where plants were missing in a row.

Henry’s father once planted several acres of corn with this device when he didn’t have access to a mechanical planter.
