 Our first model is wearing a wedding coat of Peter Wiens, brought to Canada from South Russia/Ukraine. The time is 1896. The coat is part of a private family collection that has been donated to Essex Kent Mennonite Historical Association.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our second model is wearing a coat that was worn by William Andres when he lived in Southern Russia. He exchanged the coat for a loaf of bread  The coat was made of Cashmere wool fabtric, with a Persian lamb collar and mink lining.

 

 

 

 

   

 

 

 

Maria Driedger married Abram Dick on Aug. 25, 1919 wearing the black, handmade,  satin dress shown here which was traditional at that time. the dress was worn shortly beore the couple fled from Schoenfeld Ukraine.

The locket she is wearing was worn by Katherine Drieger (married to her second husband Johan Cornies). The gems in the locket are small stones of sphire and rubies. the chain is from Europe.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The woolen outer shawl seen in this picture belonged to Katharina Toews friesen who wore it on her voyage from russia to canada in the 1920's.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 These ladies are wearing white collars frquently worn by children of Southern Russia (Ukraine) who had thir picture taken.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

T he black dress belonged to Marie(Driedger) Dick. The shawl, draped over the arm of our model, was brought from Southern Russia to Pelee Islandby grandmother Ann Cornies in 1926.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wedding dress of Margaret Will;ms Rempel. Margaret's parents were 'house parent' at an Old Age Home in the Molotschna Colony of Southern Russia.  They knew one of the residents who owned a chest full of lace remnants and was willing to sell them. Margaret's sister helen, who was a gifted seamstress, fashioned the blouse from these remnants. the original skirt for the gown was then made from a new white sheet, which had been obtained from trading some food products.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our model is wearing a nightgown belonging to Mariechen Driedger Dick. The initials MD are embroiderd on the front tof the dress.
