Mennonite deaths in Essex and Kent Counties 1925-1950

Basic information below from Mennonite Brethren and United Mennonite

Church registers. We thank the many individuals who kindly

provided additional information.

Introduction: The first Mennonites came to the Essex-Kent area in spring of 1925. The following information is a compilation of deaths as they occurred in that area during their first twenty-five years here. The Mennonite Brethren and United Mennonites worshiped together until fall of 1932. Most burials took place in the Ruthven cemetery located at the southwest corner of Highway 34 and Albuna Townline. When that cemetery became filled the Evergreen Memorial cemetery, located a short distance to the east on Highway 34, was used and is used to this day. It should be noted that several Mennonite families still had plots at Ruthven and these have been used to the present time.
