Award winning Canadian Mennonite author Rudy Wiebe will be in Leamington on May 11, 2013. Born in Saskatchewan, Wiebe spent his early years in an isolated community of about 250 people. He lived with his parents who were homesteaders in the West.
After a University education, his career has been full with writing, teaching, and travelling. He married Tena Isaak in 1958, and they had two children.
Wiebe’s novels include Peace Shall Destroy Many (1962), The Temptations of Big Bear (1973), Sweeter Than All the World (2001), and a Memoir entitled Of This Earth: A Mennonite Boyhood in the Boreal Forest (2006). Among other awards, he received the Governor General’s Award for Fiction in 1994 for A Discovery of Strangers.
The Essex-Kent Mennonite Historical Association invites you to join them at UMEI (614 Road 6, Leamington) on May 11 at 7:30 pm to hear Rudy Wiebe.
